How to fix a lock jammed error.
While monitoring locks in the portal if you see the following error stating that your lock is jammed, this article shows how to correct it.
There are 3 scenarios that could cause a lock to jam:
- The strike place is out of alignment.
- The bore hole in the door frame is not deep enough for the deadbolt to extend into.
- The lock may need to be calibrated
How to fix each scenario:
1. Strike Plate - verify alignment:
-
- Ensure the deadbolt can clearly pass through the strike plate without any obstruction
- Open the door and put the deadbolt in the unlocked position.
- From the software lock the door then unlock the door.
- If an obstruction is observed:
- Remove strike plate, re-align and test again.
- Ensure the deadbolt can clearly pass through the strike plate without any obstruction
Note: If you software/app test the lock to ensure jam error is resolved.
2. Bore Hole - Verify depth
-
- With the door open, lock the deadbolt.
- Measure the length of the extended deadbolt (strike plate to extended end).
- Now measure the depth of the bore hole.
- Note: the bore hole should be slightly deeper than the fully extended deadbolt.
- If bore hole is determined to not be deep enough, use a spade bit and drill to deepen the bore hole.
- Once corrected, verify manually and through software/app the jam error has resolved.
3. Calibration
-
- Please see articles on how to calibrate a lock.
- Once calibrated verify through software/app that the jam error has been resolved.
